Welcome to the Clary Photo Blog!

Hi! I'm Clary, based out of the beautiful meadows of the Midwest and the fortunate photographer of the deeply, connectively, head-over-heels, crazy in love people you will enjoy during your visit.

I hope you find something exciting and explore the links at the top, they will take you to all the places you need to go!
Hughes yelled this over his waffles. My smile grew all the way up to my eyes, I could hardly see over my cheeks...for so many reasons.

Life really is what you make of it. I'm learning this bit by bit, mostly through Hughes and Jet, they have no boundaries of what is exciting and how to make anything an adventure.

Adventure also does good for dogs. Our 12 year-old Westie enjoying the iced pond.

12clary.jpgSo in these cold winter months, have an adventure. Take a walk outside until your lungs hurt, build a fire, make soup, go ice fishing, kiss someone with a cold nose:)

Great images Clary! Even in these blah days there is fun out there for us. I went sledding over the weekend with my kids and even though I nearly fell in a ditch and met my death we had a blast.

01.02.2010 is a palindrome. It reads the same forwards as backwards which is very rare and only happens 9 more times this century. It also happens to be the wedding date of a very special couple. Their wedding was simply delightful, from beginning to end and backwards again. Why?

Winter weddings are awesome!!

Courtney's beautiful dress.

The flowers!

Courtney and Patrick married in their home, which was a church. Also, they had their engagement session in a church:)

Candles.

The couple went outside to get a few of just them even though it was a freezing 7 degrees.

Even the few formal pictures where awesome, they wore traditional wedding attire from where Courtney's sister, Whitney, is working in the Peace Corps.

Reception was at a venue I've been wanting to shoot at for a really long time, Lumen.

Courtney's other sister and past bride sang the song for the first dance.

Evidence clary photo brides and grooms are awesome.

It was dark

and rainy

and cold on their wedding day.

But that did stop Dan and Kara from making it bright and lovely and warm.

but before we move along...2009. What a fantastic year. The reflection back on joy, family, warmth and new friends, breathtaking dresses and out of this world bouquets, first visit to California to shoot a wedding...followed by another, family pictures, a new blog and letterpress, has me lost in a dream.

I love being a photographer.

But all this truly would not happen without you beautiful friends. You amaze and inspire me. Thank you.

2009.jpg
See you on the other side. Love and kisses.

I am in love with the church...I had no idea that there was a church this gorgeous in town!

I love the bouquet and the great things this couple has done with their wedding! Beautiful couple!

Patrick was the first friendly face I saw when arriving at their amazing home for this wedding. Sweet Ruby was the next friendly face. I instantly adore the entire family and it will be awesome to see Courtney and Patrick marry next year. Thankfully we don't have to wait too long because they are starting off Clary Photo's New Year...1.2.10 or as Courtney would say, 1-2 in the 'Lou'.

Meet Ruby:)

1cp_claryphoto.jpg
2cp_claryphoto.jpg
Ha!! Guessing Ruby was over the session.

3cp_claryphoto.jpgFun fact, Courtney and Patrick are getting married in their home which is actually a beautiful church turned into a living space. So when we found this random church under construction it was perfect!!

4cp_claryphoto.jpg
5cp_claryphoto.jpg
6cp_claryphoto.jpg
Between the vines in the back and the amazing bling...favorite ring shot ever!

7cp_claryphoto.jpgBut this is my favorite for the session:)

8cp_claryphoto.jpg
9cp_claryphoto.jpg
Doesn't it look like this space was styled for Courtney and Patrick...all the gray on gray, red vines matching Courtney's hair?!

12cp_claryphoto.jpg
13cp_claryphoto.jpg
Second favorite.

Babies don't giggle or run around in circles, jump or much less say a word...photographing a newborn is very calming. The excitement and joy comes from the new mom and dad. Photographing this time in a families life is so awesome!. This particular time I'm fortunate to share in the excitement, Joel is the worship leader at our amazing church.

And can we talk about the name?? Jett! You know I love that:)

Congratulations Kara and Joel!! Lots of love to baby Jett!

Film is a first love because of the mystery and fun of not knowing what the images looked like until well after it was photographed. For this reason I've started shooting with film when I'm not photographing a wedding or lifestyle session. The results have me dreaming of photographing a wedding with one of these. In the meantime I want to share with you the same fun and excitement that comes from film in this instant, digitalized world. So, I'm giving one of my favorite cameras to one lucky blog commenter. There are a few rules...you must be willing to free yourself from rules (yes, I know this is ironic), embrace random results, disarm your subjects, engage individuality and get your hands dirty. All the rules are detailed here along with links to more about this camera. If you can't follow the above rules or live out of the US (only because of shipping), this camera is not for you so no playing:) To win simply leave a comment in this post with your email address. I'll announce the random winner on Friday morning.

Enjoy these few Holga pictures from our Christmas Tree farm adventure!!

Film is so unbelievably romantic, and yet so rare these days. I have always been drawn to images captured in film, they exude such a beautiful softness. Just the excitement of not knowing what your images are going to look like creates such a fun and exciting dynamic. My interest in photography is a bit new, so I would love to get my hands on this bad boy and try it out! Thanks for such a great contest!
